Author/Illustrator Study!

1. Pick one author or illustrator and read at least 3 titles by that single author or illustrator. (Suggested authors and illustrators are below.)

2. Keep a list of things that you notice are unique about that author or illustrator. What does he or she do that is different than what you see in other books?

3. Go to the library and look for the series SOMETHING ABOUT THE AUTHOR in the reference section. Look up your author in the index and it will tell you what volume of SOMETHING ABOUT THE AUTHOR to look in to find more information about your author or illustrator. Xerox copy the information that you find.

4. Thank any public librarians who help you.

5. We will work together to create a brilliant report when we meet again! Come prepared with list of unique features, xeroxed research pages and your public library card!

DON'T PANIC!
This is just a list of plenty of authors and illustrators so you have a wealth to choose from. Ask your librarian or bookstore salesperson to help you locate a few, and then choose one!
Remember, check out at least 3 books by the person you choose!

  • No, you may not choose Ann Martin, R.L. Stine, Roald Dahl or Dr. Seuss for your author study, because one of the goals is to discover someone new to you.
  • Yes, you may choose someone who is not on this list, just clear it with me first.
  • I don't care if you are a big kid and you choose a picture book author/illustrator, as long as you end up analyzing the books in a thoughtful, insightful way.
